It’s NFL training camp time, and across the league, players and coaches are opening up to the media with details fans and even teammates might not have known. But what happened at Atlanta Falcons camp on Saturday caught nearly everyone off guard.
Running back Bijan Robinson, who starred at the University of Texas, is entering his third season with the Falcons. During a media session at training camp in Flowery Branch, Georgia, he revealed something unexpected—most people have been pronouncing his name wrong.
Robinson said that while most fans and commentators have been saying "BE-jan," the correct pronunciation is actually "BEE-zhahn."

The reaction was instant and loud. Fans flooded social media in disbelief, realizing for the first time they’d been mispronouncing his name.
"I did not know that," quickly from this fan.
Another here disagrees: "Wait. No. That’s not how you say your name."
This fan did not know: "Feeling a lot of shame right now."
This one had a different idea: "Big John. Got it."
"French?" this confused fan asked.
Here, this fan was surprised, but had a different idea: "Just adds even aura to him."
Robinson is coming off his best NFL season yet. After scoring 41 total touchdowns in three years at Texas, Robinson has now reached 23 in the NFL. Following a modest rookie season with eight total touchdowns, he broke out in 2024.
The Falcons' back tallied 15 total touchdowns last year, 14 of them rushing. He finished third in the league in rushing yards and fifth in rushing scores. Despite his production, Atlanta ended the season 8-9 and missed the playoffs.
This year marks the first full season with Michael Penix Jr. as the Falcons’ starting quarterback. He replaced Kirk Cousins late in 2024 and now takes over full-time.
Atlanta opens the 2025 season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 7.
