The New England Patriots are no strangers to being punished for various scandals, and head coach Bill Belichick addressed the team's latest one on Friday.
The NFL handed New England some harsh punishment this offseason following the organization's second videotaping scandal, and Belichick is ready to move past it.
“Obviously had a long investigation on that,” Belichick said Friday on a videoconference call, according to Patriots Wire's Henry McKenna. “Really, we’re just looking ahead. We have a lot of things in front of us here, especially just getting ready for the season and all that. We’ve moved on. We’ll deal with what we have to do in front of us here. Just let everything go into the rearview mirror.”
The league's punishment for the Patriots included:
While the Spygate scandal saw Belichick fined for his involvement, the league didn't fine him this time around, seemingly indicating the league thinks he didn't have anything to do with the taping incident.
The culprit was a Patriots staffer who videotaped the Cincinnati Bengals sideline during the 2019 campaign.
New England admitted to wrongdoing but also stated that the staffer was taking the video unintentionally for a production for the organization's website.
The Patriots' punishment went heavily unnoticed as it was also announced on the same day that the club signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal.
