Bill Belichick: What are the odds Patriots HC stays in New England?

Don't expect talk about Bill Belichick to wane this postseason just because the New England Patriots didn't make the playoffs.

Talk has been rampant since early in the NFL campaign that The Hoodie could be departing Foxborough after several down years. After the Pats ended the season 4-13, oddsmakers have really kicked the conversation into high gear and posted updated odds for Belichick's next coaching gig.

But what are the chances Belichick stays with the team he won six Super Bowls with, even in their time of turmoil?

The New York Post reported this week that DraftKings released odds in select markets for where Belichick will be coaching next season. And while the Los Angeles Chargers have the shortest odds to be his next destination at +200 (2-1 odds), he is also listed at +300 (3-1) to stay put.

Belichick told the media after Sunday's season-ending 17-3 loss to the New York Jets that he is still very committed to the Patriots organization. Sure, he could be holding his cards close to the vest — Belichick notoriously doesn't like to divulge info to the press — but his response on Sunday does indicate that he would be willing to stay in New England.

Of course, Belichick still has to have at least one more meeting with team owner Robert Kraft before we really know if he will stay or go. That's why a team like the Chargers, who fired their head coach and general manager during the season, looks like it could be a good place for Belichick to have a fresh start.

This isn't to say Belichick wouldn't have competition for the Chargers gig. Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh has become the betting favorite at multiple outlets to be on the sidelines at SoFi next season, but that's a whole other story.

The odds Belichick will be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons — who also need a major turnaround — are +500, while the odds he will replace Ron Rivera as Washington Commanders HC are +600. The same list puts Belichick at +700 odds of not coaching anywhere in 2024.
