Roughly one month into the 2025 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills have been dominant and are looking like one of the top teams in the league. They are 4-0 and are one of two NFL teams still undefeated, along with the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles.
What makes Buffalo a great team to start is that they are clicking on all cylinders and are dominating in nearly every area of the game. Offensively, their 404 total yards per game rank as the second-best in the league, only behind the Dallas Cowboys' 404.3 yards, and their 33.3 points per game are also the second-best behind the Detroit Lions. Furthermore, the Bills statistically have the best passing defense in the league so far, allowing just 125.8 yards per game.
Another big reason for the Bills' success is the hot start running back James Cook has been on. The Florida native earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance last season, and he is carrying that momentum into this season as well.
Through the first four games of the season, Cook has recorded 401 rushing yards (second-most in the NFL behind Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor) and a league-leading five rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 12 receptions for 89 yards. Currently, the Bills' 163.5 rushing yards per game lead the league, and Cook is a major reason for that.
Ahead of Buffalo's Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots, the team announced news about their running back following his incredible performances.
Cook has been with the Bills his entire career since they drafted him in the second round in 2022, and he has improved each season. The current campaign is still young, but early on, there are reasons to believe that another strong year is in store for the 26-year-old. This is especially true after the Bills announced that has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September, becoming the first running back in franchise history to earn this honor since Thurman Thomas in November 1991.
"James Cook has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Month. Cook is the second Bills RB to ever earn the honor, joining Thurman Thomas (November of 1991)," The Bills wrote on X.

The Bills have the reigning AP MVP in Josh Allen, who will continue to be their most important player as their quarterback. However, Cook is also continuing to prove that he is essential to Buffalo's success as well, and he will play a big role as the team aims to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994.
Cook's next opportunity to see the field will be when the Bills host the Patriots on Sunday Night Football at 8:20 PM EST on NBC. Buffalo will look to stay undefeated heading into Week 6, but in order for it to do so, Cook must continue to bring his A-game against a New England team that is allowing just 77.5 rushing yards per game so far.
