Coming off his first MVP-winning season, Buffalo Bills quarterback further cemented himself as one of the best at his position in recent years. Additionally, he ranks among the best quarterbacks in franchise history and will likely take the top spot over Hall of Famer Jim Kelly when it is all said and done.
Allen has long been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL since the Bills drafted him with the seventh overall pick in 2018. And so far this season, he has done nothing to change that.
Through his first seven games of the season, the 29-year-old has recorded 1,560 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Additionally, he has completed 68% of his passes, which would be a career-high for him in a season if he keeps up that pace.
However, one of Allen's more overlooked elements of his game is how much of a rushing threat he is as well. On Tuesday, the Bills made a historic announcement regarding their star quarterback that put a spotlight on just how dangerous a rusher he is.
Allen is incredibly athletic and has always posed as a scrambling threat. However, fans may not be aware of just how much of an impact he has made in this area.
During Buffalo's Week 8 victory against the Carolina Panthers, Allen rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns. With that performance, the California native officially reached 70 rushing touchdowns in his career, becoming the first player in Bills history to do so.
"JA17 continues to make history," the Bills wrote on X.

For some additional context, according to Pro Football Reference, second on the list is Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas, who recorded 65 rushing touchdowns in 12 seasons with the Bills.
They are the only two players in franchise history with at least 60 rushing touchdowns. Current Bills running back James Cook has 27 rushing touchdowns in three-plus seasons.
Allen is continuing to make Bills history, but the No. 1 goal for the franchise and its quarterback is getting to the Super Bowl.
As it stands, the California native has yet to play in the big game, though he came close during the 2020 and 2024 seasons when he and the Bills lost in the AFC Championship Game to the Kansas City Chiefs.
With a 5-2 record, the Bills rank among the best teams in the NFL. However, they trail the surging New England Patriots (6-2), winners of five straight, for the AFC East lead.
Allen's next opportunity to lead Buffalo to victory comes Sunday when the Bills host the Chiefs (5-3) at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
