Bills exercise fifth-year option on DT Ed Oliver

Shortly after the New York Jets reportedly picked up the fifth-year option on their 2019 first-round draft pick in Quinnen Williams, one of their AFC East rivals announced that they'd done the same on their own Class of 2019 defensive lineman.

Oliver is now under contract through 2023. His guaranteed salary for the fifth-year option in 2023 is $10.753 million

Oliver and Williams join a growing list of 2019 draft selections to earn the fifth-year option.

The 24-year-old former Houston Cougar has been a model of durability and consistency through his first three NFL seasons. Oliver's snap count on defense has increased each year from 556 (54%) to 578 (54%) to 623 (58%) and he hasn't missed a game yet since debuting in 2019.

Oliver's tackles totals have gone from 43 to 33 to 41, and after recording eight and six quarterback hits over his first two seasons, he posted a team-high 14 in 2021. Oliver has registered 12.0 sacks in 49 career regular season games, going from 5.0 to 3.0 and then finishing with 4.0 last season, which tied him for second on the Bills.

The Houston, Texas, native has had exactly one forced fumble in each of his three NFL seasons and has added 17 tackles and 1.0 sack in six postseason contests.
