The Buffalo Bills have an injury problem on their hands. We aren't even at the first preseason game yet, so the cause of concern isn't high, but it's still noticeable to say the least. This is the time of year to get meaningful reps in and build chemistry, and some guys can't stay on the field.

Another practice, another injury . This time, it was a familiar face. Buffalo Bills linebacker Baylon Spector, who has a history of injuries with the team, was forced to leave practice with a trainer as he deals with a calf injury.

Taking a look at his previous injury history, this is the fourth such instance of Spector suffering a calf issue. A promising young career that could be nearing an end due to his inability to stay on the football field.

Current battle at the LB position at camp

The injuries, specifically Spector's, are giving other guys some time to shine. With roster cuts impending, there are a few UDFA players on the roster who could carve out a role due to such injuries.

That's when you enter Bills Mafia wonderkid and fan-favorite, Joe Andreesen. Okay, maybe I just call him Wonderkid, but with a nickname like Buffalo Joe, it's hard not to fall in love with the guy.

As Sal Capaccio from WGR 550 reported, Andressen and Spector had been battling for the backup MLB spot behind (should be All-Pro) LB Terrel Bernard.

Buffalo Joe looks to make an impact

Andreesen, for those who may not remember, joined the Bills as a UDFA after last year's draft. Andreesen is a local favorite who grew up in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area playing for Lancaster High School.

In his college career, Andreesen transferred as a graduate transfer after enrolling in Bryant University, where he had been given his only football scholarship. In his final year at Bryant, Andreesen shone as he was named an All-American after setting a school record with over 100 tackles. When arriving at UB, Andreesen continued his impressive run, starting 12 games for the Bulls.

While it didn't result in his name being called on draft night (technically), Andreesen returned home as a UDFA for the Buffalo Bills, and it was no wonder why the fanbase fell in love with him immediately.

It's hard not to love Joe Andreesen

During the team's training camp at St John Fisher, Andreesen made himself available for some interviews with the press. He bleeds WNY and wants to give everything he can to this team and organization. Mike Bundt from Trainwreck Sports shared the interview on X. If you didn't love Andreesen already, you will now.

Getting a peek behind the curtain into the mindset of these players is always a treat. Bundt began, "What does it mean to you being a local, playing on the Bills, especially not just playing the Bills but also playing at UB before then?"

You could almost feel the excitement oozing from Andreesen during the interview. He offered, "I mean, it means a lot. You know, the support I get from the hometown. Not too many undrafted special teams guys get that kind of love, so it's definitely special, and just come down here working with the team that I've loved since a kid. Wanting to win. Makes it extra special."

As previously mentioned, Andreesen joined the team as a UDFA last season, looking to try and carve out a role on the defense. Now that he has a year under his belt, Bundt asked, "How much different has it been this camp versus last year, where last year you were a UDFA trying to make a team. Now you've been on the team for a year, how does it make it different for you?"

Andreesen was grounded in his response, "The biggest thing is it's very different but very similar too. There's still a lot of external expectations on you. Things that you want to capitalize on. But, obviously, I'm in the system, I'm used to all the guys and the team stuff. Makes it a little extra fun and comfortable and stuff like that. Football is still football at the end of the day, just trying to get better."

Having just one former member of the UB Bulls is amazing, but the Buffalo Bills currently have three on the team—Joe Andreesen, Cam Lewis, and Ja'Marcus Ingram. Andreesen opened up on what it meant to him to have former UB Bulls on the roster.

"It's been cool. Especially when I first came in last year. Guys like Cam and JMar, or people that I really wanted to be like. There are guys that stood out to me on film. I watched special teams drills for defense, and I can see right away why they made the team, and they were on the team for so long. They're grinders, and they're guys that I try to model my game after and be like. Cause that's how you stick around being an undrafted guy."

Last but not least, "Buffalo Joe" gave the Bills Mafia an inside look at how he feels about his nickname. Speaking directly on whether he likes the nickname or not, Andreesen said, "I mean, yeah, definitely. I think I'd be lying if I said I didn't. You know, Buffalo is where I grew up. Western New York is my home. I guess to have my nickname associated with that, it's cool and special."

With injuries going down and his number being called more than maybe originally planned, Andreesen must love his chances at the 53-man roster.
