Bills GM Addresses James Cook Contract Update

One of the big storylines to emerge from the early part of the offseason for the Buffalo Bills has been running back James Cook and his desire for a new contract.

With Cook, who will enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, wanting to be one of the highest-paid running backs in football, with the thought of around $15 million APY, making only Christian McCaffrey earn more, some aren't sure Buffalo should pay it.

After Cook surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the second time in three seasons, along with a whopping 16 rushing touchdowns in the regular season along with another three in the playoffs, the production warrants, an extension.

But will Cook get it with Buffalo?

“Love James,” general manager Brandon Beane said on One Bills Live. “What he's done, the improvement, maturity and all the things that he's brought, and had some explosive plays for us this year. We want James here. I love James, and I love who he is, pure as anyone. I understand everyone wants what they believe is their fair value, sometimes you don't always see eye to eye, and again, we don't talk about negotiations publicly, but I love James Cook, and hopefully, we can keep him in Buffalo for the foreseeable future.”

So that sounds like the Bills and Beane want to keep Cook around, but as usual, price will be a major sticking point and if $15 million APY is what James is after, then this might play out for a while yet.

There's no denying what Cook brings to the offense, and his production over the past two seasons is clear evidence that Buffalo is a better team with him running the football.

But now we are getting to the business side of the NFL, and it remains to be seen if the two parties will come together with an agreement.

Cook wants more money, and Beane wants him to remain a Bill - let's see how it plays out.
