Bills GM Wide Receiver Outburst Mirrors Of Insiders

Heading into the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills had clear defensive needs, which they addressed, but one that didn't necessarily to the extent many had hoped for was at receiver.

In the lead-up to the draft, we heard several outlets make the case for the Bills to add another weapon for Josh Allen, which we felt, at the time, considering the weapons already on the roster, could be seen as a luxury pick.

Now comes general manager Brandon Beane's explosive comments on radio on the pushback over Buffalo not drafting another stud receiver for Allen. See Beane's full comments here.

In short, Beane stated that he didn't understand all the commotion for Buffalo not getting another weapon after the offense, led by Allen, came off a year that saw them average 30.9 points per game.

We agree to an extent, with Beane's thought that the receiver group is better now that it was last season.

Mack Hollins is out, who led the team in touchdowns (five) and Amari Cooper, who didn't amount to much in the second half of the year. That's it.

They are replaced by Josh Palmer, who was signed in free agency and is good for at least 500 yards per season. That, to us, feels like a decent replacement if you want to call it that.

Looking at Allen's weapons, if a game were to be played today, you can see where Beane's bristly comments stem from.

Palmer, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Dalton Kincaid, and Dawson Knox amount to a solid room for the Bills. We can then add in Laviska Shenault Jr. and draftee Kaden Prather.

We can now see what Beane is getting at: a need for a receiver could be seen as a luxury pick more than an actual necessity, given the plethora of options at Allen's disposal.

And we tend to agree.
