Bills have strong contingency plan at QB if Josh Allen has to miss time

The Buffalo Bills have a great contingency plan if quarterback Josh Allen misses time on the field.

With the possible MVP candidate dealing with a UCL injury in his elbow, there is a possibility he will miss Sunday's game against the 7-1 Minnesota Vikings.

Journeyman quarterback Case Keenum would take starting reps if Allen missed time, perhaps one of the best backup options any team in the NFL could have at the game's most important position.

The Vikings would know a good bit about Buffalo's backup quarterback, being that he won them a playoff game for them in the past.

In January 2018, Keenum helped orchestrate one of the most legendary plays in Vikings history, the Minneapolis Miracle

In that moment, he threw the ball to former Minnesota wideout Stefon Diggs for an improbable 61-yard, walk-off touchdown to take down the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs.

The Vikings will, funny enough, possibly see Keenum and Diggs Sunday, with Minnesota trading the wideout to Buffalo in 2020.

As for Keenum, the nine-year veteran signed with Buffalo in the offseason after spending time with the Cleveland for two seasons. Last fall, he started two games for the Browns and played in seven.

He threw for 462 yards and three touchdowns along with a pick during his 2021 playing time.

While the Bills can't replicate Allen's lightning, they can withstand his absence for a little bit. Allen reportedly might be able to play through the UCL injury long-term.

However, if Buffalo wants to give him a little rest, Keenum has the experience and chemistry with Diggs to keep the team going.
