It was speculated by NBC's Mike Florio that the NFL salary cap would be increasing substantially, and it did just that.
The salary cap is increasing to $255.4 million, with an additional $74 million per club payment for player benefits. This is a $30 million increase from 2023, and nearly $13 million more than teams were expecting to be working with.
Salary cap news:
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 23, 2024
The NFL announced that the 2024 Salary Cap will be $255.4M per club, with an additional $74M per club payment for player benefits, which includes Performance Based Pay and benefits for retired players. Total 2024 player costs will be $329.4M per club, or more…
This is massive news, but especially for the Buffalo Bills who are in one of the worst cap situations in the NFL. This moves takes Buffalo $10 million closer to being under the cap, as they were originally projected to be roughly $51 million over the cap. Now, they sit around $41 million over the cap, meaning they can be a little more flexible with the moves they make. With a restructure to Josh Allen's contract, as well as big contracts for lesser players being cut, the Bills are in far better shape than they were just a day ago.
