Buffalo Bills running back James Cook is still without his new contract, with the Pro Bowler now showing the franchise he means business by participating in training camp.
There was a thought that the running back, who is seeking a new deal at roughly $15 million APY might hold out in an attempt to push through a contract, but Cook was never going to do that.
As camp got underway, Cook detailed why he chose to participate at training camp.
"It's my job," Cook said. " I got to participate so I won't get fined, just come out here and show them that I'm ready to go and earn what I got to go get."
Given that the "saga" has now dragged on for most of the offseason, it might get a little bit tiresome to be constantly fighting to get what he feels he deserves.
Set to play on the final year of his rookie contract, Cook, ideally, would like a new deal before the season starts, but even after months of no movement, don't think James is throwing in the towel.
"We have talks, I'm never going to give up, I deserve what I want, it's going to eventually happen," Cook added.
Given Buffalo has a little under $1 million in cap space, there isn't much wriggle room for the franchise to get a deal done with Cook this offseason.
Is the running back willing to wait?
"I want to be here, I want to spend the rest of my career here," he said.
Yeah, we think he'll wait.
