The Buffalo Bills' run game is a big part of what Joe Brady and the offense do with Josh Allen, and yes, James Cook is the clear No. 1, but given how dominant the run game is, others chip in.

One player who does is Ray Davis, and in his rookie season, he showed he is capable of taking an increased workload with 442 yards and three touchdowns from his 17 games (zero starts).

But now, as he enters Year 2, and Cook's contract situation isn't resolved, is there anything that Brady needs/wants to see from Davis this offseason?

“I try to not set this is what you have to be this year,” Brady said. “It's just execute what we're asking you to do right now. We might put some more on his plate. But the biggest thing I always see from a rookie from one year to the next is just the communication, the comfort level.

"This is his second time going through training camp. Him feeling more comfortable to talk to the offensive line. I'm just trying to see his comfort level, his approach, mindset and understanding of I'm not just running an offensive play. I'm understanding the scheme. I'm understanding how the defense is playing it and then how that's all going to kind of work together.”

Given how potent the run game was last season, it is a fair assumption that it will be how the offense rolls in 2025.

Cook and Davis, along with Ty Johnson, will be tasked with picking up the yards, and in Davis' case, he might warrant the majority of the snaps after Cook.

Granted, he'll have to prove he deserves it in training camp, and it starts with, as Brady said, understanding the scheme and what the coaching staff is asking him to do.

If he can show he is handling everything put on his plate, who knows, if Cook's contract saga doesn't resolve, there may be a starting spot opening up next offseason.
