Bills’ Josh Allen, Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Make History In Week 12 Matchup

On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills visited the Philadelphia Eagles for what was arguably the best game of the 2023 season to this point. It was an instant classic between the teams, which the Eagles ultimately won 37-34 in overtime.

After a first-quarter touchdown by Philadelphia, Buffalo took control in the second quarter. They scored 17 points in that stanza, taking a 10-point lead into halftime. The Eagles answered with a touchdown midway through the third, with Jalen Hurts hitting A.J. Brown in the endzone. But, the Bills would respond again with a touchdown on their own on a 16-yard run by Josh Allen.

The fourth quarter was a high-scoring affair with the Eagles scoring 17 points and the Bills getting seven. A 59-yard field goal by Jake Elliott in brutal conditions with 20 seconds left is what forced the game into overtime, dashing Buffalo’s hopes of taking home an upset victory.

The Bills got the ball first in overtime and drove down the field. But, Allen missed wide receiver Gabe Davis on an option route, guessing wrong on which direction he would break. Had they been on the same page, it would have been a 37-31 victory for Buffalo.

Instead, they kicked a field goal, giving the ball back to the Eagles. They were able to take advantage, facing a similar situation in the red zone. Unlike Buffalo, they were able to execute their play perfectly as Hurts ran in the game-winning score from 12 yards out.

It was an impressive duel between the star quarterbacks as both players shined, doing what they could to put their teams in position to win games. Allen finished the game completing 29-of-51 passes for 339 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He added 81 yards on nine carries with two more scores on the ground.

Not to be outdone, Hurts got things on track after a very slow start. He finished the game completing 18-of-31 attempts for 200 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Hurts added 65 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns on the ground.

In the process, those two made NFL history. Per ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, They became the first opposing quarterbacks to each have multiple passing and rushing touchdowns in the same game in what were special performances by the Bills and Eagles’ star players.
