Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills continued their impressive 2025 NFL season, securing a second straight win and jumping to 6-2 after a 28-21 win over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. Now, the Bills will look to make it three in a row, hitting the road to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 10.
Buffalo's defense was able to keep Mahomes at bay, completing just 15-of-34 passes for 250 yards and and interception, limiting him to five yards on the ground as well. The Bills were able to do this without numerous key defenders, including linebacker Shaq Thompson and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. But another key player was suddenly added to the injury report on Friday, forcing him to miss the game as well.
Taron Johnson was selected by the Bills in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft and has been an important part of the team since. In six games this season, the cornerback has tallied 25 tackles, two pass deflections and two stuffs. But a groin injury forced him to miss the win over Kansas City.
In 2024, Johnson signed a three-year, $30.75 million extension with Buffalo, carrying an expected cap hit of $8.01 million in 2025, per Spotrac. However, with Thursday’s NFL trade deadline approaching, the Bills have restructured his contract, converting his $5.2 million 2025 base salary into a signing bonus, a move that created $1.75 million in cap space.
"The Bills restructured the contract of CB Taron Johnson by converting base salary into a signing bonus, a move that created an extra $1.75M in salary cap space," ESPN's Field Yates wrote on X.

With the Bills creating cap space a few days before the trade deadline, this could be a hint that another roster move is coming. Still, Buffalo hopes they can get Johnson back when they face the Dolphins on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
