Bills Make Unavoidable Annual Request Before Jets Game

Winter football has a way of pulling everyone together in Buffalo, and this week feels familiar in the best possible way. As the regular season reaches its final weekend, the Bills are preparing for their Week 18 matchup while also dealing with the realities of lake-effect snow.

Highmark Stadium sits in Orchard Park, where winter weather is not just a backdrop but part of the experience. According to the National Weather Service, more than 10 inches of snow has fallen recently. The organization has once again turned to the people who know the conditions best — Bills fans.

The request is simple and very Buffalo. Grab a shovel, show up early, and help clear the stadium before kickoff. In return, fans get paid, stay warm and take part in a small but meaningful piece of the season. With playoff positioning on the line and this being the final season at Highmark Stadium, the moment means a little more.

A Familiar Call to Bills Mafia

The Bills posted on X on Thursday morning asking fans to help shovel snow out of Highmark Stadium ahead of Sunday’s game. Anyone 18 or older can take part, earning $20 per hour with food and hot beverages provided. It is a setup Bills fans have seen before, and participation is usually strong.

Snow removal crews handle the bulk of the work, but these fan shovel sessions help speed up the process and make sure the stadium is ready on time. For many, it is less about the paycheck and more about being part of the team’s preparation during a meaningful week.

Week 18 Stakes Against the Jets

Buffalo enters Week 18 with an 11-5 record, tied with the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers. The Bills currently sit as the No. 7 seed, with both Houston and Los Angeles holding the tiebreaker over them. They need to win and hope one or both lose to move up to the No. 5 or 6 seed and perhaps get a more favorable path through the AFC playoffs.

The matchup matters not only for seeding but for momentum. The Bills have been one of the league’s most balanced teams, ranking second in the NFL in rushing yards at 156.4 per game. That physical identity often shows up even more in cold-weather games, where ball control and toughness tend to decide outcomes.

Josh Allen Chasing Another Milestone

Quarterback Josh Allen also has a personal mark within reach. Allen is 332 passing yards shy of 4,000 for the season, another reminder of how strong the Bills' offense can be, despite the ups and downs of the year.

Allen’s ability to extend plays and threaten defenses with both his arm and legs has been central to Buffalo staying in the playoff mix. In a snowy, late-season game, his experience in these conditions could be a difference maker.

The Final Winter at Highmark Stadium

This season has added significance because it is the last year the Bills will play at Highmark Stadium before moving next door to New Highmark Stadium, which will have a canopy that protects most seats from the elements. That reality makes moments like this one feel more meaningful. Fans shoveling snow in January is part of the stadium’s history, and this may be the final chapter of that tradition.

For Bills Mafia, answering the call is about pride and loyalty. Clear the snow, cheer as loud as possible, and help push the team toward the postseason one more time in a place that has seen it all.
