Bills' Potential WR Target Receives Unfortunate Trade Update

The Buffalo Bills are one of the teams in position to make noise at the NFL trade deadline as they try to give MVP-winning quarterback Josh Allen the best chance to break the franchise's Super Bowl drought.

Right now, the AFC looks as open as it has been in years. With the Bills hosting Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, they could be interested in adding some firepower on offense before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has publicly requested a trade. With the Raiders bringing in wide receiver Tyler Lockett on Monday, potential trade partners are bracing for Meyers to go in the other direction. Unfortunately for Meyers, Las Vegas does not plan to let him go for cheap.

Coming off of a 10-touchdown season in 2023 and his first 1,000-yard receiving campaign in 2024, the 6-foot-2 Meyers has proven with the Raiders that he can make plays no matter who is at quarterback. This season, he has put up 29 catches for 329 yards in the six games he has played.

Adding Meyers to Buffalo's wide receiver corps that includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer would give Allen another proven playmaker. It would also provide the former New England Patriots wideout a chance to show what he can do with an elite QB throwing him the ball.

Jakobi Meyers Trade Update

A trade to Buffalo makes sense on the field, but Las Vegas' desired return for Meyers is where it gets tricky. According to Schultz Report's Jordan Schultz, the Raiders want a Day 2 draft pick in return for their main receiver — and doubts are growing as to whether or not they are "truly willing" to trade Meyers.

It is an unfortunate standoff developing for the 28-year-old Meyers, who first requested a trade in August as he entered the final year of his three-year, $33 million contract.

"[The Raiders] know how I feel," Meyers said last week of his desire to be traded. "It's no reason for me to keep going back crying to them, 'Can you get me out of here?'"

What the Bills Could Trade for WR Jakobi Meyers

The Raiders are not budging on their asking price, but that does not make a deal impossible. Bleacher Report's Alex Kay thinks the Bills could get a deal done by offering a 2025 third-round pick for Meyers, emphasizing the Raiders' motivation to get something in return worth more than the compensatory draft pick they will receive if Meyers walks as a free agent at the end of the season.

The Bills swung for the fences at the deadline by trading for star wideout Amari Cooper in 2024, but this year's tight salary cap situation may dissuade general manager Brandon Beane from repeating that stunt this time around.

If Las Vegas' demands are too much for Buffalo, Kay provided hope that other teams could pony up for the disgruntled Meyers. He also drew up trade packages involving the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.
