The Buffalo Bills once again fell short of reaching the Super Bowl in Josh Allen's eighth season as their quarterback.
The Bills lost to the Denver Broncos 33-30 in overtime during the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. As a result, the team fired head coach Sean McDermott and appointed offensive coordinator Joe Brady as his replacement.
The team is now entering the offseason with a focus on improving and taking the next step toward reaching the Super Bowl. Sports Illustrated's Connor Orr predicts that the Bills will make a significant move by signing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was released by the Miami Dolphins this offseason, potentially outbidding the Kansas City Chiefs for his services.
"While I think the chase for Hill will be closer to the post-hype “chase” for Odell Beckham Jr.—less of a drama and more about which team is willing to shell out even the slightest of guarantees—he is good enough to warrant the curiosity of a team on the doorstep," Orr wrote. "Brandon Beane and new head coach Joe Brady have been on a PR blitz this offseason to counteract the firing of Sean McDermott. Pacifying the fan base by showing interest in a slew of brand-name wide receivers is one of the fastest ways to alter public perception."
The immediate ripple effect of a potential Hill signing would be both tactical and symbolic for the Bills. After moving on from McDermott and elevating Brady, Buffalo has clearly shifted toward an offense-first identity built around Allen. Adding a five-time All-Pro wide receiver like Hill would immediately stretch defenses vertically, create spacing underneath and force two-high safety looks that open the run game and intermediate passing lanes.
From a competitive standpoint, the AFC arms race is unforgiving. Buffalo’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Broncos underscored how razor-thin the margins are in January. Hill’s speed changes defensive math in ways few players can; even if he’s past peak production, his presence dictates coverage structures snap to snap. For a team whose leading receiver production has not matched Allen’s prime-level output, investing in a true game-breaker could recalibrate late-game play-calling and red-zone efficiency.
Looking ahead to free agency, this decision would signal how aggressively general manager Brandon Beane intends to capitalize on Allen’s championship window. Outbidding contenders such as the Chiefs would be costly, but Buffalo is no longer in evaluation mode — it’s in execution mode. If the Bills believe Hill remains a difference-maker, a bold move could redefine expectations heading into the 2026 season.
