Bills RB Leonard Fournette Cut From Practice Squad

Per ESPN's Field Yates, the Bills are releasing veteran running back Leonard Fournette from the practice squad. He signed with the team on Oct. 30.

A former standout for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the latter of which he won a Super Bowl with, Fournette's addition to the practice squad midway through the season was seen as way for the Bills to add depth behind James Cook and Latavius Murray, but Ty Johnson emerged into that RB3 role instead.

Fournette was activated from the practice squad in two games this season, as he played in the wins over the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins. In those contests, he posted 12 carries for 40 yards and returned one kick for 17 yards on eight special teams snaps.

Fournette began last season as the RB1 in Tampa Bay's offense, as it was once again Super Bowl-or-bust for Tom Brady and Co. But the Bucs managed to finish with the league's worst rushing offense by a mile, averaging the fewest rushing yards per game (76.9), scoring the fewest rushing touchdowns (five) and fewest average yards per carry (3.4).

With the Bills on a roll, it looked like he might on his way to a potential second Super Bowl ring, but those hopes now appear dashed unless Buffalo brings him back during the final few days of this playoff run.
