Bills Re-sign Veteran All-Pro Safety To Solidify Defense
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills' biggest perceived weakness heading into the 2025 season was Sean McDermott's defense.

Josh Allen and Joe Brady are controlling the offense; not many have concerns about that side of the ball, aside from maybe a lack of a genuine No. 1 weapon.

But defensively, questions are consistently raised, and the Bills made a move to rectify that, with All-Pro safety and former Bill Jordan Poyer re-signing, per Jordan Schultz, with the franchise where he made his name as one of the best safeties in football.

Having played 16 games for the Miami Dolphins last season, Poyer will return to Buffalo and look to settle in straight away as part of McDermott's secondary.

Spending just one year away from the franchise, Poyer now returns in the hope of helping be a cog in the Buffalo machine that will chug its way to Super Bowl glory in 2025.

Poyer spent seven seasons with the Bills before joining the Dolphins, and his return is nostalgic for Bills Mafia, with Jordan seen as a crucial part of the franchise both on and off the field with his leadership being one of his best qualities.

Is that move enough to answer the questions aimed at the Bills' defense? Likely not, but Buffalo adds a veteran presence who still has some gas in the tank and also knows McDermott's system.

So, the transition back into the fold shouldn't take too long.

Given the timing of his homecoming, we aren't sure if Poyer will have enough time to get ramped up in time for Week 1, but expect the veteran to more than play his part throughout the season.
