The Buffalo Bills have not still not extended star running back James Cook. ... and don't seem to have immediate plans to do so.
If something cannot be agreed upon by both sides, the team could be on the lookout for someone to fill the hole that he leaves behind.
In a recent article by PFN's Brentley Weissman, he puts together a very early mock for the 2026 NFL Draft. With the 30th pick in the first round, he thinks the reigning AFC East champions should invest in Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton.
"Singleton is a hard-nosed runner who runs with power and violence, but he also has the home run speed to break long runs," Weissman writes. "Buffalo may not want to extend James Cook and give him the contract he wants, so adding a dynamic bellcow just makes too much sense. Singleton would give Buffalo a workhorse back who would do well in a Josh Allen-led offense."
The team could still very well bring back Cook, but it would be smart for them to get some insurance just to be safe.
Singleton finished his junior season at Penn State with 1,099 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also able to show his versatility with 375 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
A running back that can contribute in the passing game is something that superstar QB Josh Allen would love, as Cook has enjoyed a lot of success with his ability to do just that.
The Bills' starting running back could still very well come back, but drafting Singleton in the 2026 Draft could be something for the team to heavily consider.
