When the Buffalo Bills came off the field victorious over the Kansas City Chiefs just a few weeks ago, the team believed that they could find a way to push forward for the AFC's top overall seed for the first time since 1993.
After Sunday's 44-42 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, though, the Bills' hopes may have been dashed for good. With four games left in the season, Buffalo is now two games back for the top seed.
It's not just the top seed, though, that Buffalo may have missed on.
With their loss on the road Sunday, and with the Pittsburgh Steelers' win over the Cleveland Browns, the Bills, and Black and Gold are now tied for the second seed in the AFC.
The fight for a second seed is important in the modern NFL. Not only would that be a home-field advantage for either squad should they advance past the wild-card round, but the way the playoffs break currently has the Los Angeles Chargers as the sixth seed and the Denver Broncos as the seventh.
The difference between getting the two or three seed would be competing against Justin Herbert or rookie Bo Nix in a wild card round. That's a significant difference at this point in the AFC.
Making things even tougher is the fact that Buffalo's closing schedule isn't exactly the easiest either. Next week, the Bills clash against the one-loss Detroit Lions, and then close with three divisional games against the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
It's not just the one seed that the Bills are fighting for anymore, and the Bills don't exactly have an easy schedule down the stretch anymore.
