Key Points:
Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills pulled off a big win on Sunday, taking down the Kansas City Chiefs, 28-21. Unfortunately for Buffalo, the victory came at a substantial cost, with defensive tackle Michael Hoecht suffering a non-contact foot injury during the game.
McDermott addressed the media after the win, and while he was delighted with his team’s performance against Patrick Mahomes and Co., the Bills head coach delivered some unfortunate news on the Hoecht front.
At this point, Buffalo will need to make plans without Hoecht in the mix for the foreseeable future.
Sunday’s contest was just the second time Hoecht suited up for the Bills after signing with the team as a free agent during the offseason. He spent the first four years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams.
Hoecht missed the first six games of the season due to a suspension. The NFL suspended the former Brown Bears standout for violating the league’s policy regarding performance-enhancing substances.
Unfortunately for Hoecht, his season has now come to an end after it was confirmed after the game that the 28-year-old had suffered a torn Achilles. It was Coach McDermott who announced the unwanted update during his postgame press conference, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Hoecht’s season is now officially over. His extremely brief campaign finished with five total tackles (two solo) and 2.0 sacks. Javon Solomon could potentially get more run amid this development, with Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa likely seeing an increased load in Hoecht’s stead.
The Bills improved to 6-2 after Sunday’s win. Up next for them is the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. Buffalo will be on the road, with the Dolphins hosting the matchup at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 9.
