The Buffalo Bills have opened the 2025 NFL season in impressive fashion, with quarterback Josh Allen leading the way. The reigning MVP has powered Buffalo to a perfect start, including Sunday’s dominant win over the New Orleans Saints in which the offense topped at least 30 points for the fourth straight week.
The defense also stood strong despite the absence of several starters, holding New Orleans to just 19 points without Ed Oliver, Spencer Brown, and Matt Milano on the field. However, as the Bills begin preparations for Week 5, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that another player is set to join the injury list.
On Monday, McDermott announced that punter Cameron Johnston suffered a foot and ankle injury and will miss some time. The Bills plan to bring in punters for evaluation this week as they await further clarity on Johnston’s recovery (h/t Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic).
The 33-year-old Australian-born specialist is in his eighth NFL season and second with Buffalo after previously spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnston made his season debut in Week 2 against the New York Jets and has averaged 44 yards on punts this year while being a key field-position weapon for the Bills.
Bills HC Sean McDermott said P Cameron Johnston has a foot/ankle injury and will miss some time. They expect to bring in some punters.

RT Spencer Brown, DT Ed Oliver and LB Matt Milano are all moving in the right direction, though McDermott wouldn't commit to anything for Week 5
Known for his strong leg and consistency, he was a member of the Eagles team that won the franchise’s first Super Bowl title in his rookie season. He also led the league in punting yards in 2021 and was a national champion with the Ohio State Buckeyes during his time in college.
McDermott also provided updates on the team’s other key injuries, noting that Spencer Brown, Ed Oliver, and Matt Milano are “moving in the right direction,” Per Buscaglia. However, he stopped short of committing to their return for Week 5.
The Bills will hope to have reinforcements soon, with a challenging matchup ahead against a New England Patriots team that scored 43 points in its win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Buffalo’s defense will need to be sharp, but the offense remains anchored by Allen, who has already accounted for 10 total touchdowns through the first four weeks.
