Bills Trade For Packers Receiver Predicted

The Buffalo Bills touted the tandem of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs for years, centering around the typical franchise quarterback and No. 1 pass catcher archetype for years. During the 2024 offseason, they changed course, trading Diggs and opting for a receiver-by-committee strategy.

There are some merits there but the Bills offense lost some of its punch despite the incredible season by Allen. A grouping of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Amari Cooper and others just simply lacked the firepower to truly threaten a defense.

Granted Allen himself strikes enough fear into an opponent alone. But the Bills could certainly use an upgrade at the position. A year later, they have added some pieces but have not necessarily done that.

They have added Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore and Laviska Shenault Jr. Yet none of those players fit the mold of a No. 1 receiver. At this point, the Bills do not have many options to find that exact player, but could take a chance on a player with some upside.

Beth Mishler-Elmore at Heavy believes Romeo Doubs could be a viable option for the team.

"Doubs’ experience and versatility could complement the Bills’ existing receiving corps, and he could give Allen another dependable option.

"This is only something the Bills should do if Doubs can be had on the cheap — which he probably can — and if Buffalo still has questions about its current group of WRs heading into training camp."

Even on the cheap though, there is a question of what Doubs actually adds to the Buffalo receiving corps. He has been a 600-yard receiver the last two seasons but the Bills are not moving the needle forward.

Nothing about his career thus far suggests he is more than a complimentary piece in offense. The Bills already have plenty of those and several other young players with the opportunity to progress with another year.

Though Doubs may not be the exact solution for the Bills' offensive needs, Buffalo still needs contributors to emerge from their current crop.
