The Buffalo Bills' offseason plans have centered around getting Josh Allen a No. 1 weapon to ease the workload on Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Curtis Samuel.
But the defensive side of the ball can't be forgotten either, and offensive lineman Dion Dawkins has made a public plea for the Bills to go after Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett who requested a trade.
However, the draft capital and the contract Garrett has are big things for the Bills to swallow.
But what if there was a nice alternative? A free agent who has the pedigree, is a little older but still commands attention? For CBS Sports, that player is Khalil Mack.
"The Bills currently don't have a lot of wiggle room from a cap perspective as they are roughly $8.6 million over the cap," CBS Sports writes. "Even when they get their books in order, they might not be able to go big-game hunting in free agency. However, that may not preclude them from bringing in a notable name like Khalil Mack.
"The 34-year-old pass rusher isn't at the peak of his powers at this stage of his career, but he's still more than capable of making an impact off the edge. ... Mack also has ties to the area after playing his college ball at the University of Buffalo, so this could be a homecoming of sorts as he links up with a Super Bowl contender."
Mack still registered six sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and six tackles for loss as he earned his ninth Pro Bowl nod last season. So, there is production still coming from the veteran.
Already with the aging Von Miller on the books, the Bills might pass on the chance to sign Mack, but he would certainly be a cheap alternative, and with Buffalo's salary cap situation, it is in the position where it has to be selective.
It won't be an earth-shattering move, but if the money is right, Brandon Beane could make a shrewd business move. ... and while Myles would require both money and draft capital in a trade? Mack can come here more freely.
Mack still has some juice in the tank, and maybe he could help the Bills' defense get some more bite out of their pass rush.
