Bills WR Cole Beasley: Deactivating Twitter 'definitely a weight lifted'

Cole Beasley has had a spotlight on him for several months because of the things he has said off of the field, whether it be in press conferences or on social media.

The Buffalo Bills wide receiver chose to scale back his online presence by deactivating his Twitter account during Week 5 and told reporters on Sunday he feels like a weight has been lifted ever since.

"When I first got here, I got away from [social media], and then things happen," Beasley told reporters after the Bills' 26-11 win over the Miami Dolphins, via ESPN. "And the issues that we have at hand, and I just felt like I needed to take responsibility for the guys that couldn't.

"But it's good for me to get back to where I wanted to be, and it's not on there. The real world is out here and not there. Most people say things on there that you don't want to hear. And it's definitely a weight lifted, and I feel like I did the right thing."

Beasley gained a high level of notoriety for his stance on COVID-19 and his unwillingness to get vaccinated. The 32-year-old even went so far as to tweet he would buy fans tickets for away games since proof of vaccination is required to watch home games at Highmark Stadium.

Beasley's controversial stance has become a polarizing one for Bills fans, and some have taken to booing him.

Many fans weren't booing Beasley on Sunday as he had one of his best games of the season, catching 10 targets for 110 yards in the victory over Miami. Even if they did jeer, Beasley doesn't mind as long as fans are engaged in the game.

"Whether some are booing or some are saying, 'Beas,' it still felt good playing and they were loud," Beasley said. "So, I enjoyed it either way."
