Blocked extra point leads to Washington kicker Joey Slye injury

An extra point turned disastrous for the Washington Football Team. Not only did the Seattle Seahawks return the block to the end zone for two points, Washington’s kicker Joey Slye was injured on the play.

Following a JD McKissic touchdown, Washington led 9-7. On the extra point, Seahawks defense end Rasheem Green blocked the kick, recovered it, and rolled all the way to the end zone to tie the game at 9-9.

Slye joined the Washington pursuit trying to stop Green. However, Slye pulled up before falling to the FedEx Field turf. He handled the ensuing kickoff but again fell to the turf with an obvious injury.

Washington announced shortly afterwards, Slye was questionable to return to the game with a strained hamstring.

Punter Tress Way assumed the role of kicking off to start the third quarter. ESPN’s Lisa Salters reported during the Monday Night Football broadcast Slye will only handle extra points if he returned. Washington would go for it on any potential fourth down over a field goal when the opportunity is presented.

After Washington’s JD McKissic scored his second touchdown of the game, Washington elected to go and made a two-point conversion to regain the lead at 17-9.
