Bo Nix doesn’t mince words, calls himself out just seconds after thrilling comeback win vs Eagles

The Denver Broncos took down the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5 of the NFL season. It was a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback for quarterback Bo Nix and the offense, squeaking out a victory against one of the best teams in football.

That's not to say everything was coming up Denver in the contest. Nix opened up after the game, calling himself and the offense out for what they were unable to accomplish for nearly three quarters of football.

At the end of the day, they got the win, but fully understand some areas that need to be cleaned up. This is exactly the type of response fans are hoping to hear out of the second-year signal caller.

“Our defense kept us in the game for the longest," Nix said. "After the first three points, we just literally did nothing for a while, and then finally went down the field and scored. Got some tempo, you look up and there’s still a lot of fourth quarter to be played, and so we got the ball again, knew we had to go do it again . . . We got some good momentum, and we just played with that for the rest of the game.”

Nix's fourth quarter proved to be the difference-maker

In the fourth quarter alone, Nix went nine for 10 with 126 passing yards and a touchdown, and was three for three on scoring drives. A touchdown to tight end Evan Engram and a two-point conversion by receiver Troy Franklin sealed the victory for the Broncos.

The second-year signal caller opened up about yet another close game in the fourth quarter, and what it meant for the team in the long term.

“It was great. It’s about time we got a fourth quarter, close one," Nix said. "Felt like KC last year, felt like we’ve been there before, and went down and got points in the four-minute drill, and our defense held them at the end. It was good, felt like we’ve been in that position a lot, and today went our way”

When asked if he was surprised by Franklin's success on the two-point conversion, Nix had nothing but praise for his former Oregon teammate in Franklin.

“Wasn’t surprised, next thing I knew he was giving me the hash, giving me the call," Nix said. "Knew we had one play to get the job done, and Troy ran a great route. We’ve been practicing that for a couple of weeks, and he got in the end zone. Just trust in his players, and we got the job done.”

Not everything was going according to plan for Denver in the early stages of the contest. In fact, Nix and the offense couldn't muster anything, leading to six straight punts and not a lot of scoring for Denver.

“I wasn’t happy about how the first part was going," Nix said. "Six straight punts is not what anybody wants. We handled it how we handled it, went out and won the game."

Despite the issues and the areas needing to be cleaned up , the team got a statement win in Week 5 against a very good Eagles team. With eyes set on their upcoming London matchup against the New York Jets, Nix had one final note about the victory, and it's something Broncos Country can all get behind.

“It’s awesome, it’s a great win. Proves we can go on the road and beat these tough teams, we can be a tough team to play," Nix said. "It’s good for our confidence, it’s good going into this trip. A lot of teams struggle before they go to London, but we focused on this trip, we focused on this game, we went out and got it done. It was a good win for us.”
