Bo Nix explains how he can be a good teammate as a rookie
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As he moves onto the NFL with the Denver Broncos, quarterback Bo Nix is learning how to be a great teammate at the professional level.

The former Oregon Ducks wants to be a shining light for the Broncos through the good and the bad. That’s one of the many things he’s learned through his first month in the league, and he’s carrying it on his shoulders as he moves forward.

“Quite simply just meeting them where they are, and you know, just if they’re having a bad day, pick them up. If they’re having a great day, celebrate it with them,” Nix told the media. “But it’s exciting, because everything is new, and everything is happening really fast and we’re all in this together. You know, we’re all teammates now, and it happened so fast, but we’re all in great spots.”

That seems like a pretty sound way of looking at it for Nix. He’s been hailed as a tremendous teammate and leader before, during his time with the Ducks and prior to that when he was with the Auburn Tigers, so it looks like that part of his game hasn’t changed.

The world knows Bo Nix can get the job done. Now, he’s proving he can lead, even at a young age. The Broncos are in good hands, as Denver reshapes their franchise with Nix leading the way at quarterback.

Sean Payton compares Bo Nix playstyle to golfer

Sean Payton decided on quarterback Bo Nix to be the man to lead the Denver Broncos into the future under center during the 2024 NFL Draft.

As Payton begins to examine Nix in a pro-style offense with the Broncos, he’s enthusiastic about what he’s been seeing. Speaking with the media, Payton decided to compare Nix to a golfer, but it’s more of compliment than anything.

“It’s almost like watching a good golfer,” Payton said, regarding his new quarterback. “Sometimes, when you watch his game, over two years, you just — there’s a patience to how he plays. The ball comes out, and I don’t want to use the term boring. That’s not the right term. But pretty good decisions, and with each play, the efficiency of how he’s operating. All of that.

“We’ve done these camps for a long time, and some teams no longer have a true rookie minicamp. It might be more of an orientation. I like to have the workout players here, because we’ve found a tryout player, every now and then. And then, it also allows you to have the full-team drills, and I think it develops, not just the quarterback, but everyone else. So often times, your first exposure to huddle, snap-count, verbiage, that can be challenging. But I thought he threw it well.”

It’s easy to see why there’s a lot to like for Payton regarding Nix. Over the course of his time in college football, Nix passed for 15,352 yards and 113 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,613 yards and 38 touchdowns, over three seasons with Auburn and two with Oregon.

Moving forward, Bo Nix is hoping to be a symbol of stability for the Broncos. Denver is taking to him already, and we’re willing to bet Sean Payton will make sure his quarterback is as comfortable as possible moving forward.
