Brady Quinn blasts Booger McFarland over take on Jets' Zach Wilson

Fox Sports college football analyst Brady Quinn has blasted ESPN's Booger McFarland over McFarland's controversial take on New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.

"It was one of the dumbest things I’ve heard on air," Quinn said during an appearance on the "Pick Six Podcast," per the Barrett Sports Media website. "And that’s saying something because Booger was on 'Monday Night Football' and he said a lot of dumb stuff during that period of time."

As Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated explained, McFarland went viral on Nov. 21 when he criticized Wilson after the second-year pro initially refused to say he and his offense "let the defense down" during the Jets' 10-3 loss at the New England Patriots in Week 11.

"You mentioned one word: accountability," McFarland said at that time. "Let’s understand who this young man is before we ask him to accept accountability. He’s a young man who grew up with a lot of money. I don’t think he’s ever had to accept accountability. And so now on the biggest stage, we want this quarterback to accept responsibility."

Those words didn't sit well with Quinn.

"The interesting thing is that Booger came out on Ross Tucker’s podcast and defended himself as an analyst," Quinn added. "OK, well you just contradicted what you just said. Because as an analyst, you’re supposed to be analyzing what’s on the field. The last time I checked, you don’t have a doctorate or you’re not a doctor in understanding the sociology of the relationship or the parenting or anything else that goes along with that yet you want to analyze that. It was a bizarre deal."

Jets head coach Robert Saleh ultimately benched Wilson in favor of Mike White last week, and White passed for 315 yards and three touchdowns in this past Sunday's 31-10 win over the Chicago Bears. It's assumed White will continue to start over Wilson as long as the 27-year-old keeps guiding Gang Green to victories.
