Brady’s Buccaneers Backup QB’s Brother Signs with Dolphins

One thing that you have the responsibility of as a sibling is to pave the way for those younger siblings to make a name for themselves. The NFL has several sets of brothers in the league that have done just that. Whether it is Stefon and Trevon Diggs or Josh and Luke McCown, it is always fun to see when younger siblings of former players get their moment to shine as well.

Recently, the Miami Dolphins announced that they have signed the younger brother of former Super Bowl champion quarterback Blaine Gabbert, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brett Gabbert, over a six-year career at the University of Miami-Ohio, had a solid final season. He totaled 2,921 yards passing with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Dolphins are hoping he can help serve as a backup to their current starter Tua Tagavailoa.

You may recall that Blaine Gabbert served as the backup to the great Tom Brady during the Buccaneers run to the 2020 Super Bowl, and ultimately would be crowned a Super Bowl champion. This would be the first of two in Gabbert's NFL career, as he would later go on to win another as a backup to Patrick Mahomes on the Kansas City Chiefs just three years later.

Gabbert attended the University of Missouri for 3 years, and started for them at quarterback for two of those years. Both of his final years in college he would throw for more than 6,779 yards combined and 40 touchdowns. This type of performance is what led to him being drafted with the tenth pick in the 2011 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It remains to be seen what type of impact his brother Brett will have for the Dolphins, but if he follows in big brother's footsteps, he could serve as a very serviceable backup in this league for years to come.
