Brandin Cooks flies Micah Parsons, Stephon Gilmore in propjet ahead of preseason game in Seattle
Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks took advantage of his pilots license on Saturday ahead of the team’s game versus the Seahawks. The former Texans star took edge rusher Micah Parsons and cornerback Stephon Gilmore up in the clouds above Seattle in a small plane.

Cooks posted on Instagram, “They let the wrong ones in the sky,” as well as, “They need to let me do the fly over for the National Anthem.”

As solidified first-teamers for Dallas this season, the pre-game adventurers didn’t have a big role to play on the field on Saturday night, but they clearly made the trip worthwhile.

Cooks, in his first season with the Cowboys, hasn’t recorded a stat yet in the preseason. Dallas acquired him via trade during the offseason to add an extra threat for Dak Prescott. Prescott believes Cooks is already having a major impact on the wide receivers on the team.

“He’s a true veteran,” Prescott said last month. “He’s a true pro on and off the field the way he takes care of his body. The way that he approaches the game. He’s been in the league for a while. You can tell that he’s been around some really good coaches, some great quarterbacks.

“And he brings all that experience to this team and that receiver group. Guys like CeeDee [Lamb] and Michael Gallup. They’re benefitting so much from him… Him being able to stretch the field open up some options for us. It’s gonna be great.”

Throughout the course of his nine-year NFL career, Cooks has hauled in over 1,000 receiving yards in six of those seasons. The former Oregon State star has hauled in 630 total catches for 8,616 receiving yards, while bringing in 49 total touchdown catches in his career.

Cowboys lose two rookies to injury versus Seattle

The Dallas Cowboys are losing not one but two rookies for the season, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken. After confirming the results of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown‘s MRI, Gehlken shared that undrafted rookie tight end John Stephens Jr. also tore his ACL in Saturday’s loss against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 6-foot-5 tight end spent three seasons at TCU out of high school before transferring back to Louisiana-Lafayette for his final season. Though his size gave him an advantage when it came to potentially securing a roster spot for this season, the injury could derail his rookie year.

Stephens had one reception for six yards on Saturday night before going down with his injury.

In the Cowboys’ first preseason loss versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stephens posted a team-high five catches for 56 yards. The appearance also included his first NFL touchdown – a 15-yard strike from third-string quarterback Will Grier.

Overshown’s injury occurred with just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter, when he made a tackle on Seahawks rookie tailback Zach Charbonnet. Overshown appeared to be fine initially, before grabbing his left knee in pain. He was able to walk off the field on his own power, eventually being carted off to the locker room. He had three tackles before he had to exit the game.
