Breaking News: The Cincinnati Bengals Have Designated This Promising Young Cornerback for Return from Injured Reserve
Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cincinnati Bengals have designated their promising young cornerback, Cam Taylor-Britt, for return from injured reserve. Taylor-Britt has a 21-day window to practice before he can be elevated to the active roster. If Cincinnati does not activate him in that 21-day window, he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season.

The Cincinnati Bengals cornerback hasn’t played since Week 11.

Taylor-Britt aggravated his quadriceps injury in their Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens and missed their Week 12 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Taylor-Britt suffered an ankle sprain during Friday’s practice before their Week 13 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was placed on injured reserve before the game.

Head coach Zac Taylor was hopeful that he would return this season:

“Very hopeful. There was a conversation of how it would play out over the next four weeks and ultimately thought it was the best thing to make sure it fully heals and he’s not rushed back from it. Always impossible to predict when it’s that type of time frame but hopeful we can get him back during the regular season.”

How good was Taylor-Britt this season?

Cam Taylor-Britt was having a breakout season in his second year in the NFL. He has 46 tackles, four interceptions, one pick-six, ten pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He is 34/60 for 532 yards and three passing touchdowns with a 75.1 passer rating allowed in coverage through ten games.

Who was his replacement?

Chidobe Awuzie has taken over for the injured Taylor-Britt. Awuzie was the starting cornerback opposite of Taylor-Britt to start the season, but D.J. Turner replaced Awuzie in the starting lineup.

Due to Taylor-Britt getting injured, Awuzie has started in the last five games. He has 24 tackles, two for a loss, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble in the last five games, and has 52 tackles, two for a loss, six pass deflections, and one forced fumble this season.

Awuzie is 34/53 for 467 yards and four passing touchdowns with a 117.4 passer rating allowed in coverage.

Will Taylor-Britt play this week?

Cam Taylor-Britt was recently cleared to practice, and there is a possibility he will play this week.

What impact does this move have on the Bengals defense?

Taylor-Britt returning to the lineup positively impacts the Bengals’ defense because he’s one of their best defensive players.

Another reason why this move positively impacts the team is because their defense has struggled this season. They allow the 11th-most points, the 2nd-most yards, the most yards per play, and the 5th-most passing yards this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals are fighting for a playoff spot.

Cincinnati is last in the AFC North with an 8-7 record and is 9th in the AFC Playoff Picture. Here’s how they can make the playoffs.

They play on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17 and at home against the Cleveland Browns in their season finale.
