Brett Favre offers Aaron Rodgers advice amid Jets uncertainty

Hall of Famer Brett Favre previously shared a locker room with current New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers when both were with the Green Bay Packers, and Favre seemingly remains a big fan of Rodgers to this day

During a recent chat with TMZ Sports, Favre offered his former teammate some advice as both Rodgers and the Jets contemplate what they should do during the offseason.

"He’s got something left," Favre said about Rodgers, as shared by Bryan Fonseca of the New York Post. "I think I’m right in saying that he has a lot of juice left in the tank."

It often seemed this season that Rodgers had little "left in the tank" coming off the torn Achilles that essentially cost him the entire 2023 season. However, it was reported last week that the hamstring issue that first slowed Rodgers before the halfway point of the 2024 campaign was worse than outsiders realized. He also dealt with injuries to both of his knees and a low ankle sprain before he turned 41 years old in early December.

According to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers ended the regular season ranked 31st in the NFL with a 48.2 adjusted QBR and tied for 21st with a 90.5 passer rating for the campaign. With that said, he completed 23-of-36 passes for 274 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in New York's Week 18 win over the Miami Dolphins back on Jan. 5.

"I just think he still can play," Favre continued. "You saw it this last game. You go, 'Well, where’s that been?' That’s the Aaron Rodgers we know. He’s making all the throws. Guys are responding to him, love playing with him. Where’s that been all year?"

Rodgers does seem to be a popular figure in the Jets locker room, but it's unknown if the team's to-be-hired general manager and head coach will ask the veteran to return for at least one more season. It's possible that a banged-up Rodgers could determine he's had enough and will ride off into the sunset of retirement.

Favre famously walked back multiple retirements during his career and, thus, knows something about how Rodgers may be feeling this winter.

"If there’s any little inkling in him that wants to play and prove that he can still do it at a high level, then I would say do it," Favre added.

Rodgers reportedly would consider playing for the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans or Las Vegas Raiders if the Jets decide to go in a different direction. Perhaps receiving interest from even one quarterback-needy team could be all it takes for Rodgers to follow Favre's advice regarding the 2025 season.
