The Los Angeles Rams are on their bye week and it couldn’t have come at a better time because the team is banged up on both sides of the football.

Week 9 was a tough watch for fans as the Rams trotted out Brett Rypien as their starter for the matchup. Matthew Stafford didn’t practice during the week as he dealt with a UCL sprain in his thumb, and there was some internal hope that he would be able to suit up.

However, Stafford was unable to go and Rypien drew what ended up being his first start and only start with Los Angeles. The backup struggled to get anything going through the air and as a result the Rams decided to waive him.

L.A. turned around and signed veteran Carson Wentz to back up Stafford presumably the rest of the way, and Rypien didn’t take long to find a new home as he signed on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, via Adam Schefter of ESPN:

The Seahawks are locked into Geno Smith as their starter with Drew Lock having stepped in when the signal caller was hurt. Rypien gives them a solid option to run their scout team and potentially be brought up on game day given teams have the ability to activate a third quarterback.

Originally from Spokane, WA., Rypien returns to his home state coincidentally enough a week before Seattle is set to take on Los Angeles in Week 11. Rypien isn’t likely to see any action, though he could probably give some tips and insight into the Rams’ offense.

That might not do much for the result of the game, though Los Angeles has to feel a little irked that another one of their players signed with a division rival.

Kyren Williams expected to return in Week 12

Aside from the quarterback spot, the Rams also took hits to their backfield as Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers were placed on injured reserve at the same time. Fortunately, Williams hasn’t sufferd any setbacks in his ankle sprain recovery and is expected to return to the field in Week 12, which will come after the Rams play the Seahawks in Weel 11 coming out of their bye.
