For weeks now, many fans have longed for the Kansas City Chiefs to make one specific move before this year's trade deadline. Despite Patrick Mahomes' MVP-level play this year, the offense is still lacking a real game changer in the back field.
One of the latest reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini now suggests that the Chiefs are not looking at trading for a running back, but rather eyeing help on the defensive line (also an excellent idea).
Still, general manager Brett Veach would be silly not to go all-in on a trade for New York Jets running back Breece Hall.
Some of the latest intel suggests the Jets are being "stubborn" with asking prices for some of their trade candidates, which might mean an overpay is coming if any team wants to make a deal for Hall.
For a team like the Chiefs, whose offense looks like it might just be on the brink of exploding with one more piece, Hall is the perfect player to overpay for.
Believe it or not, Hall currently ranks third in the NFL with 14 runs of 10-plus yards. Despite the Jets' horrific offense, he has been fantastic. He also has three runs of 20 yards or more, which puts him tied for third in that respect.
The Jets offense has been completely abysmal, which has caused Hall's overall numbers to be incredibly sporadic. He has two games with over 100 rushing yards on the year and four games with four or more targets. Hall is a true dual-threat back that has an extra gear he can hit once he's through the second level. The Chiefs need him, period. It's as simple as that.
Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt are not, and have not, been cutting it. Chiefs fans know this all too well. There is a reason why Brashard Smith has been getting worked in more. This team needs a difference maker at running back, and Hall could be just that.
Of course, going after defensive line help should be the number one priority. But, picture the Chiefs offense having added a talent like Hall in the back field. Getting Rashee Rice back and adding Hall might be exactly what the Chiefs need to put things back over the top and cement themselves as the Super Bowl favorite.
