Brian Burns Eager to Put Losing 'In the Rearview As Soon As Possible'

Earlier in the week, the Carolina Panthers made the bold move to move off of elite pass rusher Brian Burns, trading him to the New York Giants.

It was an unpopular decision amongst the fanbase as you could imagine, considering the team has traded away high-profile players in each of the two previous years (Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore).

No, the Panthers didn't get the type of return they should have but that ship sailed two years ago when former GM Scott Fitterer rejected a trade offer from the Rams that would have netted two first round picks. With Burns under the franchise tag and no long-term deal, Carolina had no leverage. 

One of the few positives that came out of the trade is that Carolina sent a clear message that they are going to invest in building an offense around Bryce Young and are essentially at the very start of a rebuild. 

Burns has already made it up to the Big Apple and discussed his time in Carolina with the New York media.

"Respect to Carolina. I really appreciate them drafting me back in 2019 and I had a great five years there. It just came to an end and we split paths but I'm just super excited to be a Giant now and start this new journey.

"I want to put that in the rearview as soon as possible," Burns said about being a part of five losing seasons. "But I honestly would say that I feel like it definitely prepared me for what's coming in the future. Going through seasons as such, it was tough but it kind of teaches you resilience, it teaches you not to give up and it shows your character. I feel like throughout that process I've grown."
