Brian Callahan reveals his three pillars this era of Titans football will live by

Brian Callahan is already working diligently to set the team's foundational pillars for the next era of Titans football.

Callahan has his work cut out for him as he aims to lead the Titans back to contending in the AFC. However the Titans are just 6-18 in the last 24 games, so establishing a winning culture won't happen overnight.

Every coach has a mantra, or a set of rules for their team to live by in order to succeed. Callahan is no different. The first-time head coach joined former Titans Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on the Bussin' With The Boys podcast to explain his approach to curating a competitive culture in Tennessee.

"We have three C's and it's character, communication and connected team," Callahan explained. "Those are the three things that matter the most. The character guys, are they coachable? Are they dependable? Are they positive? Are those the guys you want to be around as a teammate?"

It’s clear the Titans are prioritizing communication in 2024. The team went out and signed a highly regarded center in Lloyd Cushenberry who will be one of the most important pieces in Will Levis' growth and development in his first season as the Titans’ full-time starter at quarterback.

"The best teams in the league are great communicators, especially up front. You've gotta pick up blitzes on third down to win in the NFL and you've gotta be on the same page. Sometimes it's loud as s*** on the road and you're on the silent count. How do we get the calls communicated? How great are we at communicating?"

Finally, Callahan emphasizes a sense of togetherness amongst the players.

"Being a part of something that's bigger than yourself. Everybody's got money, everybody's got players. There's talent in the league. Every game comes down to one possession most of the time. What's the separator? To me it's the teams that when you look at 'em you feel it when they play. You're like 'Man, those dudes are playing for each other.'"

Just by listening to the players speak at OTAs it’s clear that they are already pulling the proverbial rope in the same direction. With a veteran group of contributors like the Titans now have, the level of buy-in from the team’s leaders shouldn’t be a concern.

While Callahan’s ideologies sound great, the only way to establish a winning culture is by actually winning. If the team can practice what Callahan is preaching, then the process should translate into wins this fall.
