The Washington Commanders are gearing up for a high-stakes NFC East showdown against the Dallas Cowboys at Northwest Stadium. After two straight losses, Washington finds itself at a critical juncture in the season, needing a victory to remain within striking distance of the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite recent struggles, optimism remains high within the locker room as the team focuses on correcting its mistakes and regaining momentum.
Head coach Dan Quinn, facing his former team after three successful years as Dallas’ defensive coordinator, has seen his Commanders defense falter against the run this season. Washington currently ranks 30th in run defense, allowing 152.1 rushing yards per game—a significant regression compared to the unit’s performance in prior seasons. Recent matchups have underscored the issue, with the Steelers and Eagles combining for 368 rushing yards during the team’s two-game skid.
Offensively, the Commanders have struggled, managing just 506 total yards over their last two games while allowing 746 yards to opponents. Their rushing attack has dipped significantly, producing 153 yards across both matchups. Brian Robinson Jr. led the ground game with 63 yards against the Eagles, while Austin Ekeler added 44 yards against the Steelers in Robinson’s absence. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has also declined statistically since his Week 7 rib injury. Once completing 75.3 percent of his passes with a 107.1 passer rating and averaging 53.6 rushing yards per game, Daniels’ numbers have dropped to 59.5 percent, an 89.6 rating, and 27.5 rushing yards per game, highlighting the team’s offensive challenges.
Despite these setbacks, Robinson expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rebound.
"I think that we'll respond to what we're going through now," Robinson said. "We will get back on track. We definitely gotta look in the mirror and see what it's gonna take for us to clean up everything that's dirty right now, but I feel like we've got a good group of guys that take full accountability."
For Washington, this game presents an opportunity to turn the tide. A win would not only snap their losing streak but also keep them firmly in the playoff race while closing the gap on the Eagles. It would also serve as a statement that the Commanders can overcome adversity and remain contenders in one of the league’s toughest divisions. With a home crowd behind them and a chance to reset, Washington aims to prove they’re still a force to be reckoned with in the NFC East.
