You can easily make the case that if another team aside from the Dallas Cowboys traded for George Pickens, the move wouldn't have been dissected within an inch of its life.
That is part and parcel of being America's Team, and most have raised reasons why it won't work.
Most are concerned about Pickens' fiery on-field nature and may wonder how he will fit into the Brian Schottenheimer culture shift.
To that, we ask this. Why would the Cowboys trade for a player they didn't think could slot into what Schottenheimer is building? No, no, they wouldn't.
And as it turns out, the Cowboys have a plan, if you want to call it that, to ensure George plays to his full potential.
And it starts and stops with what Schottenheimer is building off the field.
"At the end of the day, you have to establish a culture that holds everybody accountable, you got to care about people," VP of Player Personnel Will McClay said on Sirius XM radio. "I think Schotty's whole process of putting the team together and the way he's approaching it is we're going to have open conversations, open dialogue, treat you like men, and then also it's on the player to grow up. It's us having the things in place to ensure that he has an opportunity to achieve his full potential."
We have seen Pickens wear his emotions on his sleeve, and sometimes, that gets him and his team into trouble, but the Cowboys are confident in Schottenheimer's culture to absorb that and help George navigate the tough times in 2025.
Because they will be coming, George will go through a rough patch, and it will be up to this new culture that Schottenheimer has built and Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons are building to help him through those troubled seas.
The Cowboys wouldn't have made this trade if they were unsure about Schottenheimer's ability to curb Pickens' on-field enthusiasm, and it is clear that their belief in his culture was a driving force in making the trade happen.
The Cowboys have their "plan" in place. Time will tell if they can execute it.
