It's been a tough 2024 season for the Las Vegas Raiders but a big bright spot has been the play of rookie tight end Brock Bowers.
Bowers has been a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses and has already compiled 108 receptions for 1,144 yards and four touchdowns. He has a chance to break the NFL record for the most catches in a single season by a tight end.
Bowers only needs nine more receptions to break the record after Zach Ertz broke it in 2018 when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Ertz recorded 116 receptions for 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns.
The rookie tight end will have a decent shot at it since he's recorded 10+ receptions in two of his last five games. He torched the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 22, compiling 11 receptions for 99 yards.
He then had seven receptions for 77 yards against the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday.
The Raiders took him with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and if they can get him a better quarterback, the sky could be the limit as a tight end. He can make any catch in any situation.
The Raiders will end the 2024 season with a rivalry game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, January 5. The Raiders come into that game with a 4-12 record while the Chargers have already clinched a playoff spot with a 10-6 record.
A loss would give the Raiders a better draft pick but that's the last thing on the players minds right now. They want to end this season on a high note going into the offseason.
Kickoff will be at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS. Kevin Harlan and Trent Green will have the call for those that get the game.
