Brock Purdy will eventually receive a substantial raise from his current rookie contract. Until then, he earned a notable boost on Wednesday.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo shared a chart of 25 players who earned the most performance-based pay from an NFL program aimed at rewarding lower-compensated contributors. Purdy placed 16th with an additional $857,842.
That's a big bonus considering his modest salary. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback made $985,000 in 2024.
Five players received over $1 million in performance-based pay. New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood led the league at $1,092,206.
Purdy netted San Francisco's second-highest performance pay behind Dominick Puni, an offensive guard who started all 17 games in his rookie season. The third-round pick earned $898,036, more than his $795,000 salary.
As the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy has spent the last three seasons as the NFL's biggest bargain. According to Spotrac, he's made approximately $2.9 million in career earnings.
In return, Purdy has posted an NFL-high 8.9 yards per pass attempt with the league's second-highest quarterback rating (104.9) behind Lamar Jackson. The 49ers went to the Super Bowl in Purdy's second season.
Yet 2024 represented a down year by his standards. Purdy registered his lowest completion percentage (65.9) and threw a career-high 12 interceptions. The 49ers missed the playoffs in a disappointing 6-11 season derailed by numerous high-profile injuries.
Purdy shouldn't qualify for this program much longer. His salary will jump to $5,346,000 in 2025, and he could sign a far more lucrative extension before Week 1.
San Francisco has shed money this offseason by trading Deebo Samuel and cutting Javon Hargrave and Kyle Juszczyk. Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, Charvarius Ward, and Jaylon Moore have all found new teams in free agency his week.
Jason La Canfora reported last week that the 49ers made Purdy a starting offer worth $45 million annually. The Athletic's Dianna Russini disputed that claim, saying that would be "disrespectful" to their starting quarterback.
