Brock Purdy has a strong message for Brandon Aiyuk amid ‘ugly’ contract talks with the 49ers
Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

Brock Purdy  has been in touch with  Brandon Aiyuk throughout the offseason. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback revealed that he will always have the All-Pro Wide receiver’s back.

On Monday, the 49ers kicked off their voluntary training method. Brock Purdy arrived at the facility earlier than most of his teammates because he was hosting a youth football camp near the area. He sat down with Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group and spoke on several subjects.

One of them was about Brandon Aiyuk and his ongoing contract fiasco with the team. Purdy revealed speaking with the 26-year-old and even discussing the contract situation, but he refused to go into the details because it’s above his pay grade.

I just told him I'd always have his back and support him in whatever he does. I want the best for him. It's a business thing, so for me to say anything about that, that's out of my pay grade. Brock Purdy told Cam Inman

Purdy further added that he is grateful to Aiyuk for being one of his best teammates.

What he's done for me, giving me an opportunity to come in and throw him the ball, I'll always be thankful for that. Brock Purdy said

Brock Purdy aims to go one better than last season with Brandon Aiyuk on the team

Aiyuk had the best season of his NFL career. The Arizona State graduate surpassed 1000 yards in his second consecutive campaign. He racked up 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, solidifying himself as one of the best in the league.

However, Aiyuk is in the final year of his contract and wants to be fully compensated.

I am trying to get what I deserve. I felt like this season, playing football, I figured out who I was as a person, as a player, and what I brought to the table. Brandon Aiyuk said via the Nightcap Show

Purdy, on the other hand, has been busy in the offseason. The Iowa product recently got married to longtime girlfriend Jenna Brandt. Yet he always kept himself updated with all the nitty-gritty details of the 49ers franchise.

Unlike the previous two campaigns, Purdy is healthy and will join the training sessions from the start. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is really looking forward to it.

I am just pumped; Brock gets an offseason. I'm pumped to be able to go through the film with him and to be on the field with him, which he hasn't had a chance to do yet in his career. Kyle Shanahan said last month

Similar to Aiyuk, the 49ers will also have to talk about an extension with Purdy. However, the 24-year-old’s focus is on improving himself.

I still have to put in the work. I have to win games for this organization, [and] I have to get better, starting here in OTAs. Everything will fall into place when it needs to, and that's how I'm looking at it, but I appreciate his kind words. Purdy said

During the 2023 season, Brock Purdy proved all the doubters wrong by leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl. He notched 4,280 passing yards along with his first Pro Bowl nod and an NFC Championship title.
