What had been a roller-coaster ride of a season for the San Francisco 49ers and for quarterback Brock Purdy came to a crashing end when San Francisco suffered a 41-6 blowout loss to the rival Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs.
While speaking with reporters days later, Purdy insisted he was "proud" of all that the 2025 49ers were able to accomplish.
"It sucks how it ended," Purdy said, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "We also have that bitter taste in our mouth, but definitely gonna learn from this, and I'm really excited for the future of the 49ers and what we're gonna do moving forward."
Purdy suffered a toe injury in San Francisco's Week 1 win over Seattle, and he later aggravated the issue in Week 4. He was limited to just nine regular-season starts, while 49ers pass-rusher Nick Bosa (ACL tear) and linebacker Fred Warner (dislocated and broken ankle in Week 6) were out of the lineup with campaign-ending setbacks before the midway point of the season arrived.
"It was a long year," Purdy acknowledged. "Just coming into the year, I was like, 'Man, I want to play my best year of football.' And then, go into Seattle, and boom, I get turf toe. Overall, I was out eight weeks. And so, for me, it was like, 'Dang, this isn't how I expected the year to go for me, personally.'"
San Francisco entered the playoffs with a record of 12-5, and the Niners then earned a wild-card win at the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. As much as Purdy is bummed over what happened in Seattle, he still appreciates how he and others in the 49ers locker room responded to adversity throughout the season.
"...We had 13 wins this year and had a lot of guys, young guys, step up, and come into a role, and play at a high level," Purdy added. "More than anything, the love of this locker room and the brotherhood that we have, to be able to do it together, week in and week out, and give it everything we had, that's something that we'll always carry with us. In my eyes, it was a special year."
Like every team, the 49ers will endure plenty of change this offseason. For example, San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is expected to become the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
