Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix flashed franchise cornerstone traits on the field last season, and now he is coming into his own as a leader off the field.
Nix plans on getting together with his wide receivers and running backs for player-organized practice sessions in between mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp in July.
These offseason workouts can be pivotal for teams trying to reestablish chemistry and timing between quarterbacks and their receivers, as well as for new teammates to get to know each other.
Newly signed running back J.K. Dobbins is one such example, as he looks to ingratiate himself with his new Broncos teammates.
"Before camp, I know Bo is doing something for us," Dobbins said. "We're going to all get together, and it's going to be good. It’s going to be great. Hopefully, we build a relationship, too.”
Nix, entering his second year in the NFL, seems to be taking a page out of the books of legendary quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, as both signal-callers were famous for their offseason workouts with teammates.
“I think most teams do it," Broncos head coach Sean Payton said. "Drew [Brees] would have them come to San Diego. These guys will go work out for three days. I think it’s just spending time together, and I don’t think it’s unusual. That is their time.”
Manning often took his offensive weapons to Duke to get reps in.
It's essential to note that, according to CBA rules, these workouts can only be player-driven, and no coaches or assistants are allowed to be involved in the practices. This only makes it more impressive that Nix is taking the initiative himself to get his team ready for the 2025 season.
