Broncos Could Pursue Intriguing Quarterback In Free Agency
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Could Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton try to reunite with an old friend from his New Orleans Saints days? Mike Klis of 9 News thinks so.

Klis suggests that the Broncos pursue utility player Taysom Hill this offseason, particularly if the Saints decide to cut Hill.

Hill signed a four-year, $40 million with New Orleans back in 2021 and has two years remaining on his deal. The Saints are slated to enter the offseason with the worst salary cap situation in the NFL, so it will need to make some tough roster decisions in order to free up some cash.

As a result, Hill may end up being a cap casualty.

Hill, who played his collegiate football at BYU, went undrafted and initially signed with the Green Bay Packers in May 2017. However, he was waived just before the start of that ensuing season and was picked up by New Orleans.

Naturally a quarterback, Hill has filled various different roles for the Saints throughout his NFL career. He has thrown passes, caught passes, run the football and even returned kicks.

This past season, Hill went 6-for-11 with 83 yards and a touchdowns as a passer. He rushed for 401 yards and four scores while averaging five yards per carry, and he caught 33 passes for 291 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

The Broncos will probably rearrange their roster quite a bit heading into 2024 and will almost certainly be releasing Russell Wilson. Now, that does not mean Hill will step in as Denver’s starting quarterback, but he could spell signal-caller on occasion, much like he did for Payton in New Orleans.

Should the Saints part ways with Hill, he would certainly have a fair amount of potential suitors, and you have to think the Broncos would be near the front of the line given Hill’s history with Payton.

Denver went 8-9 this season and has not made the playoffs since last winning the Super Bowl during the 2015-16 campaign.
