The start of the new league year was a solid start for several teams across the NFL.
Arguably no one had a more impactful start to free agency than the Denver Broncos, who are coming off a 10-7 season. The Broncos made signings at some of their most-needed positions on both sides of the ball, but they might be done adding key veterans.
The Broncos have unanswered questions about their starting running back spot after letting Javonte Williams walk via free agency. With each passing day, the list of potential first-string running backs is getting shorter.
Denver could still make a big move by signing one of the top rushers, former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb.
In the first five years of his career, from 2018 to 2022, Chubb rushed for 6,341 yards and 48 touchdowns on 1,210 carries. He also caught 119 receptions for 990 yards and four touchdowns. Chubb was selected to four Pro Bowls during this time.
In week two of the 2023 NFL Season, Chubb suffered a torn MCL and a damaged ACL. This kept him out until week seven of last season. He missed the last three games of the regular season with a broken foot.
Chubb rushed for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 102 in eight games played last season behind a bad offensive line.
The Browns let some of their offensive linemen go and signed only one starting-caliber offensive tackle while they focused on re-signing star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
The Broncos possess one of the most efficient offensive lines in the leagues. Chubb will be able to rebound his career by playing for a stacked Broncos offense where he won’t be asked to be the main star. Denver can find a reliable future star running back by finding a backup in the second round.
The Broncos can give Chubb a chance to become a star rusher in the league with a one-year deal.
