Broncos get great news on injured RB

Denver Broncos fans received great news on starting running back Javonte Williams on Monday morning.

Palmer said the Broncos feel there's a "good chance" that Williams won't have to start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

The health of Williams will be crucial to turning around Denver's disastrous 2022 season, as the 2021 second-round pick's Week 4 ACL tear last year was one of the many causes of the Broncos' demise. With Russell Wilson entering his second season with the franchise and new head coach Sean Payton now at the helm, the availability of Williams this summer could be huge.

The 23-year-old had a huge rookie season in 2021, racking up 1,219 yards from scrimmage on 246 touches and adding seven total touchdowns. Williams went for nearly 1,000 yards on the ground alone, totaling 903 rushing yards and four scores on 203 carries, while securing 43 of his 53 targets for 316 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air.

He took over as the starter in 2022 and finished last season with 47 carries for 204 yards and 16 catches for 76 yards.

The Broncos signed Samaje Perine in March to be their backup running back, but the former Cincinnati Bengal has done most of his work in the passing game and on special teams throughout his six-season career.

If Payton and Wilson mesh and Williams comes back healthy, Denver has the wide receiving weapons to give the offense potential to be one of the biggest bounce-back stories in the NFL this season.
