Peyton Manning is further cementing himself in the Denver sports scene.
Denver was awarded the 16th NWSL team earlier this year, and Manning is getting in on the action.
“As the NWSL continues its rapid growth, we knew it was critical to launch our 16th team in a city with a passionate sports culture and vibrant fan base, and Denver is the perfect match,” Commissioner of the NWSL Jessica Berman said. “The club’s plans for a purpose-built stadium and state-of-the-art training facility demonstrate a commitment to providing world-class environments for our players and fans alike. With this ownership group’s vision and dedication, we are confident that Denver NWSL will set new standards for excellence on and off the pitch, inspiring the next generation of players and supporters across the Rocky Mountain region.”
This also marks Denver's first women's professional sports team in a major national league. And the club announced on Tuesday that Manning is joining the ownership group.
“It’s a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,” Manning said in a press release. “I’m proud to support the growth of women’s sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.”
And controlling owner Rob Cohen also spoke about what this means for the new franchise.
“Peyton’s legacy as a champion and a leader is second to none,” Cohen said. “His impact on Colorado sports is unmatched, and we’re incredibly proud to have him as a partner. He brings passion, insight, and deep local roots — all of which will help us shape the future of Denver NWSL.”
Along with Manning, world renowned skier Mikaela Shiffrin is also a part of the ownership group.
The team is set to being playing in 2026.
